First introduced at our December 2010 meeting, Olney Home For Life has grown from a dream to a reality. Over the past year this dedicated group of volunteers has worked diligently to bring this effort to fruition. As we are all aware, Olney just like many communities has senior citizens who want to “age in place” but are no longer able to perform simple daily chores or drive. Olney Home For Life has been created to fill this void.

Currently they are looking for volunteers to provide transportation and other assistance to Olney senior citizens. If you are interested in volunteering or if you know someone in need of their services, please call 240-406-9209 or email info@olneyhomeforlife.org

Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board Meeting, March 17

The Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board is continuing their effort to reach out to the communities in the Mid-County service area, which includes Olney. So, they are holding their March 17th monthly meeting at the Bauer Drive Community Center from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend and share their comments and concerns with the Advisory Board members. See the flyer for more details.

Special Exception Process Seminar, March 7

The Montgomery County Civic Federation is holding a seminar about participating in the Special Exception process for zoning changes – open to citizen – civic and HOA members.

Date: Saturday March 7
Time: from 9:00AM to 12 noon.
Place: County Executive Office Building 101 Monroe Street Rockville – first Floor Auditorium
(Park at county council garage for free – Monroe and Jefferson Streets)

Speakers: Francoise M. Carrier, Director MC office of Administrative Hearings & Martin Klauber MC Peoples’ Counsel

Cost: $5.00 for materials

ICC Meeting, Wednesday, February 18

The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 18, 2009 (at the ICC office), 2 Taft Court (off Gude Drive), Rockville. The meeting is designed to address:

issues that directly impact adjoining homeowners, including soundwalls/berms, visual/noise/environmental impacts, construction noise, the removal of existing trees, displacement of deer & other wildlife, new landscaping, storm water management, etc.;
responses to questions related ot engineering issues (traffic projections, etc.) that the ICC team couldn’t respond to at the GOCA meeting on Tuesday; and
other ICC related issues of interest to attendees.

Directions to the ICC office are: (1) take Muncaster Mill to a left on Avery, a right on Southlawn, and a left on Gude. Take a left at the first signal (Taft Court), and then a right about 100 feet down Taft Court (for 1 & 2 Taft Court). Drive around the buildings to the entrance which is the lower level at the far side of the building. Plenty of free parking is available; or (2) take 97 to a right on 28, to a right on Gude, to a right at the first signal (Taft Court), then follow the preceding directions to the ICC office. Workshop on Property Tax Assessment Appeals

The Montgomery County Civic Federation will be presenting a seminar on Understanding How Property Taxes are Assessesd and Appealed onSaturday, December 6, 2008 form 9:00 – 11:30 am. The seminar will take place at the County Council Office Building auditorium, first floor rear.

Presenters are Jack Brennan, Supervisor at the State Department of Assessments and Taxation, Montgomery County, and Arnold Gordon, Chairman of the Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board for Montgomery County.

A small fee may be assessed to defray the expense of photocopying materials and for refreshments.
