The 31st Annual GOCA awards will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 7 at the Longwood Community Center on Georgia Ave. north of Route 108. Light refreshments will be served; the event is free and open to the community, neighbors and friends. Several of our county and state elected officials will be in attendance.,

Please join GOCA as it honors those who have contributed to our area this year and historically. The awardees are:

The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2009 GOCA Awards is just around the corner. So, if there is someone or a group that you feel should be recognized for a noteworthy contribution to the greater Olney community during 2009, complete the attached nomination form and return it by January 12th. It can be brought to the GOCA meeting that evening in the Olney Community Room of the Buffington RE/MAX Realty building. Feel free to forward this to any other people who may want to submit a nomination.

These awards will be presented at the annual GOCA Awards Ceremony on Sunday, March 1st at Longwood Recreation Center. Plan to attend, even if you don’t nominate someone to help the community express its appreciation to those who help to make Olney the great community it is.

GOCA Awards Nominations

The character of a community is a reflection of the people that live and work there. Olney is such a special place because it is filled with so many people who care about Olney and are willing to “get involved” and give something back to the community, each in their own way.

GOCA wants to recognize the individuals, businesses, and organizations the community has identified as having made a notable contribution to the greater Olney community during 2008. Those recognized make contributions through working with youngsters, assisting senior citizens, performing voluntary civic work, improving our schools and educational facilities, making resources available for community endeavors, etc. GOCA looks for nominees who have made a noteworthy effort as a volunteer(s) or who have gone beyond the requirements of their jobs to enhance the quality of life in our community.

If you know of an individual or organization deserving recognition, give the community an opportunity to express our appreciation by filling out the 2008 GOCA Awards Nomination Form. Completed forms should be mailed to Ron Berger, dropped off at the Olney Library, given to any GOCA officer or brought to a GOCA meeting (2nd Tuesday of each month at Buffington RE/MAX Office Building, 7:45 pm). Deadline for submission: January 13, 2009. There will be a box at the Olney Library to pick up nomination forms and leave completed forms.

The ceremony is at Longwood Recreation Center on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2:00 pm.
