Synopsis of November 9, 2010 GOCA Meeting

GOCA presented $395, raised in 2009 by Sherwood H.S.’s charity fashion show, to Deborah Hanson of Olney Help. Peaches Crenshaw, Sherwood H.S. counselor, was present. Sergeant Heurich and Officer Hidayat informed us that Olney has minimal crime, but residents should lock their homes and vehicles and vacant homes should have lights timed by typical use. Bunnie Gordon of the Victim Assistance and Sexual Assault Program gave an extensive presentation detailing the staff, crisis center, volunteer training, and the fact they have already served over 2,000 sexual assault victims this year. Eric Mellor and Tim Cooke of the Intercounty Connector Project said landscaping and signage will continue into early next year for Contract A which is 88% complete. They showed a map that included the relocated Park and Ride of Routes 97 and 28. In unfinished business, Arnie Gordon submitted two resolutions. The first one supports the effort of Maryland delegates to adopt foreclosure assistance legislation similar to HB 1010. His resolution passed 26 to 0 with no abstentions. His second resolution opposesthe adoption of the Maryland Senate bill, MC10-11, which would charge parents for their magnet students’ transportation. His resolution passed 22 to 0 with 3 abstentions.
